South Korea’s Red Cross has offered to send humanitarian aid to North Korea after devastating flooding near the Chinese border displaced thousands of people and wiped out a whole village.

“We express our willingness to promptly provide urgently needed supplies to the North Korean disaster victims from a humanitarian and compatriotic standpoint,” a representative of South Korea’s Red Cross announced through Seoul’s unification ministry on Thursday.

“We are prepared to discuss the items, scale and method of support with the Central Committee of the North Korean Red Cross Society and look forward to a prompt response,” the spokesperson said.
