Red Cross receives sanctions exemption to send laptops to North Korea

Shipment intended to support office operations in DPRK, though unclear if related to plans for foreign staff to return

The U.N. Security Council has approved a sanctions exemption request from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to send laptops to North Korea, according to a notice posted by the U.N.

The Security Council approval grants the IFRC an exemption until Aug. 6, 2025 to send ten HP Elitebook laptops to the DPRK to support day-to-day office operations in the country. The laptops will be shipped to Pyongyang from China, according to the notice.
