Ambassadors of Brazil and Nicaragua take up posts in North Korean capital

Diplomats are only fourth and fifth to enter country since pandemic began, as DPRK continues to shun European countries

Brazil and Nicaragua’s ambassadors to North Korea have finally taken up their posts in Pyongyang, NK News has confirmed, even as the DPRK keeps its doors shut to diplomats from Europe and humanitarian organizations.

Ambassador Luis Felipe Fortuna left to reopen the Brazilian embassy in Pyongyang in late May, multiple diplomatic sources told NK News, requesting not to be identified due to the sensitivity of the matter.

Fortuna joined the embassy in 2018 and previously served as charge d’affaires. He was on vacationin Brazil when North Korea decided to seal its borders due to COVID-19 in Jan.
