North Korea displays Marx and Lenin portraits for first time in over decade

Portraits visible during Kim Jong Un’s visit to new cadre school appear to underscore renewed emphasis on communism

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un toured a newly built campus for training ruling party cadres on Wednesday, according to state media, revealing portraits of Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin on display for the first time in a decade in a sign of the regime’s renewed emphasis on communist ideology.

Kim’s visit to the Central Cadres Training School of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) followed the completion of construction at the site, the Rodong Sinmun reported on Thursday.
