ROK military holds drills on defending border islands if North Korea attacks

Reinforcement training on Yellow Sea islands comes after DPRK leader called de facto maritime border ‘illicit’

The South Korean military recently held large-scale reinforcement drills on border islands in the Yellow Sea, training to deploy forces in the event of a North Korean attack amid concerns about inter-Korean tensions.

Marine personnel from the Northwestern Defense Command boarded ships and landed on Baengnyeong Island with tanks, helicopters and amphibious assault vehicles during the exercise on Friday, according to an ROK Marine Corps press release on Sunday.
