South Korea, Germany warn of North Korean cyberattacks against defense industry

Joint advisory asserts DPRK cybercriminals are stealing military tech to develop weapons like satellites and submarines

South Korea and Germany issued a joint cybersecurity advisory on Monday warning that North Korea is increasingly using cyber espionage to obtain military technologies and advance its weapons programs.

In the advisory, Seoul’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) and Berlin’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) outlined the tactics of DPRK cybercriminals’ social engineering campaigns and methods designed to remotely infiltrate targets’ internal servers.
