EU blacklists North Korea’s defense chief over arms transfers to Russia

European Council also designates DPRK missile bureau, while US sanctions Russian ports involved in weapons shipments

The European Union blacklisted North Korea’s defense chief and key missile bureau on Friday over arms transfers to Russia, while the U.S. designated entities involved in a related shipping operation in sanctions marking two years since Moscow launched its war in Ukraine.

The DPRK’s defense minister Kang Sun Nam and the country’s Missile General Bureau are among 106 individuals and 88 entities that threaten peace in Ukraine, the European Council announced last Friday as part of its 13th sanctions package against Russia.
