Seoul sanctions over dozen North Korean ships and firms for alleged smuggling

ROK says unilateral measures aim to cut off funding for DPRK weapons, but expert calls sanctions largely ‘symbolic’

South Korea sanctioned over a dozen vessels, individuals and entities linked to North Korea’s illicit efforts to smuggle fuel to fund its weapons programs on Wednesday.

According to Seoul’s foreign ministry, the unilateral designations are the first that South Korea has imposed on vessels since March 2016.
