South Korea sanctioned over a dozen vessels, individuals and entities linked to North Korea’s illicit efforts to smuggle fuel to fund its weapons programs on Wednesday.

According to Seoul’s foreign ministry, the unilateral designations are the first that South Korea has imposed on vessels since March 2016.

“The designated ships engaged in ship-to-ship transfers with North Korean vessels, smuggling of refined oil and coal into the DPRK and procuring used vessels” for the country’s fleet, Seoul’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
