North Korean state TV revises maps to only highlight northern half of peninsula

Changes appear to be part of systematic effort to purge symbols of unification in line with orders from Kim Jong Un

North Korean state television has begun airing maps that only highlight the northern half of the peninsula, after leader Kim Jong Un deemed unification “impossible” and called for redefining the border to reflect that the two Koreas are separate countries at war.

The changes began on Tuesday when Korean Central Television aired an image of the entire peninsula and neighboring Manchuria in news and weather reports that only accentuated the territory north of the Demilitarized Zone that the DPRK directly controls.
