North Korea scheduled to host Japan women’s soccer team for Olympic qualifier

DPRK has not confirmed game will go ahead, but it could be first time foreign athletes enter the country since pandemic

North Korea is scheduled to host the Japanese women’s soccer team for an Olympic qualifying match in late February, setting the stage for the possible return of international sporting events to the country after four years of border closures.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) website states that the DPRK will face off against Japan in a qualifying match for the 2024 Paris Olympics women’s soccer competition at Pyongyang’s Kim Il Sung Stadium on Feb. 24, followed by a return leg in Tokyo four days later.
