Seoul will continue to promote humanitarian assistance to support North Koreans in the year ahead, South Korea’s unification minister said Tuesday, despite focusing more on international efforts to draw attention to Pyongyang’s human rights record.

At a press conference in Seoul, Kim Yung-ho said the South Korean government plans to introduce a new human rights roadmap and establish a National Center for North Korean Human Rights to raise awareness about abuses in the country. 

Seoul will also publish a new report titled “Economic and Social Reality of North Korea” based on interviews with over 6,000 defectors, he said.
