North Korea slams Pentagon for calling it ‘persistent threat’ in WMD strategy

North Korea has criticized the U.S. for calling the Pyongyang regime a “persistent threat” in its new strategy for countering weapons of mass destruction.

A spokesperson for the DPRK defense ministry called the label “another grave military and political provocation against independent sovereign states” in a statement published by Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Wednesday.

The official added that the “persistent threat” wording in the 2023 Strategy for Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) is “most suitable for the U.S.,” noting it’s the only country to have used a nuclear bomb in war.
