The new U.S. special envoy on North Korean human rights visited Seoul and met with top South Korean officials on Monday, days after being sworn in to fill the position vacant for more than six years.

Longtime State Department official Julie Turner was sworn in on Friday and is visiting South Korea from Oct. 16-18, according to a State Department press release.

During her inaugural trip, Washington’s new representative will meet “government officials, civil society organizations, North Korean escapees and journalists to discuss her priorities as Special Envoy, opportunities for joint efforts to promote human rights in North Korea
