US sanctions Russian tied to Wagner Group for assisting North Korean arms sales

Designation targeting Kremlin’s war effort in Ukraine comes as Kim Jong Un visits Russia to discuss military cooperation

The U.S. has designated a Russian man for his alleged role in facilitating North Korean munitions sales to Russia, part of a sweeping set of new sanctions targeting the Kremlin’s war effort in Ukraine.

Thirty-four-year-old Pavel Pavlovich Shevelin, “an individual affiliated with the paramilitary Wagner Group,” was blacklisted over his involvement in the alleged munition shipments, the State Department said in a press release announcing dozens of designations against Russia on Thursday.
