US senators pressure Biden to crack down on North Korean cryptocurrency theft

Democratic lawmakers warn DPRK using billions in stolen crypto to fund weapons, calling for White House to detail plans

U.S. lawmakers are pressuring President Joe Biden to take a more decisive stance on North Korean cyberthreats, seeking to cut off funding for the regime’s weapons programs. 

In a letter released last week, Democratic senators Elizabeth Warren, Tim Kaine and Chris Van Hollen called on the Biden administration to “address North Korea’s reliance on cryptocurrency to evade sanctions” and detail its current and future plans to stop DPRK cybercriminals.
