South Korean prosecutors have indicted eight individuals, including the operator of an ROK oil trading company, for allegedly attempting to smuggle nearly 2,000 tons of fuel to North Korea last year.

The Jeonju district prosecutor’s office announced the charges in a press release on Tuesday, accusing the individuals of violating ROK law governing inter-Korean exchange and cooperation.

The 56-year-old “operator” of the South Korean oil trading company and his accomplices allegedly attempted to deliver 1,870 tons of diesel fuel to North Korea via ship-to-ship transfers in the East China Sea, for an estimated price of 2.6 billion won ($1.97 million)
