North Korea slams US over planned Security Council meeting on DPRK human rights

Expert says Pyongyang eager to criticize alleged abuses in other countries but bristles at any mention of its own

North Korea slammed the U.S. on Tuesday for requesting a U.N. Security Council (UNSC) meeting to discuss DPRK human rights abuses, calling August “the most shameful month in the history of the U.N.”

The U.S., Japan and Albania requested the UNSC meeting on DPRK human rights last week. If it goes ahead, it will be the first UNSC session to discuss the issue in five years.
