Kim Jong Un inspects North Korea’s typhoon-hit farms, praising recovery work

Expert says visit betrays food supply concerns, while seeking to show leadership is concerned for local communities

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited farms affected by a typhoon that swept across the Korean Peninsula last week, state media reported Friday, expressing satisfaction with army-led efforts to mitigate damage just days after blaming local officials for flooding elsewhere.

Inspecting farms in Anbyon County, Kangwon Province, Kim singled out the efforts of an air force unit whose light aircraft and helicopters sprayed pesticides over affected rice fields, along with two other units involved in the recovery efforts, according to the Rodong Sinmun.
