US sanctions North Korean for facilitating arms sales to Russia’s Wagner Group

Designation of Rim Yong Hyok comes after Washington accused DPRK of shipping munitions to paramilitary group last year

The U.S. has sanctioned a North Korean national for facilitating arms sales to the notorious Russian paramilitary Wagner Group, in a move to limit Moscow’s ability to continue its war efforts in Ukraine.

The new sanctions target a DPRK citizen identified as Rim Yong Hyok for providing “material, financial or technological support” for the Wagner Group’s chief Evgeniy Prigozhin and “facilitating shipments of munitions to the Russian Federation,” the U.S. Treasury and State Departments announced on Thursday.
