Seoul has warned that heavy rainfall will hit North Korea this week, a development that experts say poses a threat to the DPRK’s already dire food situation.

“As heavy rainfall is expected in North Korea, thorough monitoring of river water levels and emergency response in the border area is required,” South Korea’s Ministry of the Interior and Safety said in a statement on Sunday, citing data from the Korea Meteorological Administration. 

While it did not provide rainfall forecasts for North Korea, the ministry projected that some parts of the South could receive more than 100 millimeters of rain a day
