Seoul warns heavy rain to hit North Korea, calls for monitoring water levels

Rain could exacerbate DPRK’s already dire food situation and sweep away homes if it causes flooding, experts say

Seoul has warned that heavy rainfall will hit North Korea this week, a development that experts say poses a threat to the DPRK’s already dire food situation.

“As heavy rainfall is expected in North Korea, thorough monitoring of river water levels and emergency response in the border area is required,” South Korea’s Ministry of the Interior and Safety said in a statement on Sunday, citing data from the Korea Meteorological Administration.
