Seoul asks North Korea to give notice before releasing water from border dam

Request comes as DPRK authorities warn of heavy rain in border areas following start of monsoon season

Seoul has called for North Korea to provide advance notice before discharging water from its dam near the inter-Korean border, following the start of the summer monsoon earlier this week.

In a statement, South Korea’s unification ministry said it seeks to convey its position on preventing flood damage through the media since the DPRK is not responding via inter-Korean hotline calls.
