South Korea’s election commission has agreed to undergo an investigation into allegations that it neglected multiple security warnings about North Korean hacking attempts, a lawmaker said Tuesday.

The office of conservative lawmaker Lee Man-hee confirmed to NK News that the National Election Commission (NEC) will conduct the investigation with the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and the Korea Internet and Security Agency. 

The NEC has yet to reveal specific details about the investigation, but Lee’s announcement follows allegations by ruling party politicians in recent weeks that the election body ignored NIS warnings about eight cyberattacks in recent years.
