UN human rights office ‘deeply concerned’ about North Korean prison camps

Report based on defector interviews says DPRK continues to execute prisoners and stonewall UN investigations

The U.N. has “reliable information” that North Korea continues to operate a network of political prison camps, executing prisoners in secret and holding captive foreign nationals, a new U.N. report states.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) states it is "deeply concerned” about these camps in the new report, which is based on 80 interviews with North Korean escapees conducted between 2016 and 2022.
