Elizabeth Salmon recommends female guards supervise women in detention and steps to ensure abortion access in new report

North Korea should assign female guards to supervise women in detention and ensure safe access to abortion services, including for victims of rape, the U.N. special envoy for DPRK human rights states in a new report.

Special rapporteur Elizabeth Salmon presents the recommendations in her first report to the U.N. Human Rights Council released Thursday, calling for Pyongyang to define discrimination against women in relevant laws and take an array of other steps to improve the position of women in the country.
