A U.S. federal court has charged a Russian national for illegally supplying electronic devices and software to North Korean and Russian authorities, according to the Justice Department.

Ilya Balakaev allegedly supplied hazardous gas detectors and a manual purchased in the U.S. to the first secretary of the DPRK embassy in Moscow between 2019 and 2020, according to court documents unsealed Friday.

The indictmentserved by the New York Eastern District court states that Balakaev, who knew the North Korean official through his time working at Moscow’s culture ministry and travel to the DPRK, purchased an Altair 4X gas detector online
