UN chief says onus on North Korea to return to denuclearization talks

Antonio Guterres calls North Korea’s nuclear weapons the ‘clear and present danger’ driving tensions in region

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the responsibility for resuming denuclearization talks lies squarely with North Korea, condemning Pyongyang’s nuclear development.

“The unlawful nuclear weapons program being pursued by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is a clear and present danger, driving risks and geopolitical tensions to new heights,” he said during a ministerial-level meeting of U.N Security Council (UNSC) on Thursday chaired by Japanese foreign minister Yoshimasa Hayashi.
