Danger zone: Activists say they sent ‘Top Gun’ and other films into North Korea

Group aims to ‘empower’ the people but may have defied South Korean law against sending materials across border

A U.S. nonprofit loaded thousands of USB flash drives with blockbuster movies and television shows and sent them to North Korea this year, according to the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) on Sunday.

HRF told NK News that it sent 2,000 USB flash drives and SD cards to the North in 2022 as part of their Flashdrives for Freedom program. Besides movies and series, some of the files on the drives included “educational content” on entrepreneurship and human rights reports from the United Nations.
