Nigerian influencer who laundered money for North Korea sentenced to 11 years

Ramon Olorunwa Abbas flaunted wealth on social media that he earned in part by conspiring to help Pyongyang, US says

A U.S. court sentenced a 40-year-old Nigerian Instagram influencer to over 11 years in prison on Monday for a series of online scams, including conspiring to help North Korea launder millions of dollars.

The court found that Ramon Olorunwa Abbas — better known as Ray Hushpuppi — conspired with Canadian national Ghaleb Alaumary to launder funds that North Korean hackers stole from a Maltese bank in 2019. The money was “destined for the North Korean government,” according to a press release from the district court in California.
