A U.S. court sentenced a 40-year-old Nigerian Instagram influencer to over 11 years in prison on Monday for a series of online scams, including conspiring to help North Korea launder millions of dollars.
The court found that Ramon Olorunwa Abbas — better known as Ray Hushpuppi — conspired with Canadian national Ghaleb Alaumary to launder funds that North Korean hackers stole from a Maltese bank in 2019. The money was “destined for the North Korean government,” according to a press release from the district court in California.
