A North Korean nuclear attack would have dire consequences for Kim Jong Un, Washington’s latest defense strategy paper warns, leaving both nuclear and non-nuclear options on the table for dealing with Pyongyang.

“Any nuclear attack by North Korea against the United States or its allies and partners is unacceptable and will result in the end of that regime,” the Department of Defense said in the new National Defense Strategy (NDS) released on Thursday.
