North Korea’s ‘strengthened rhetoric’ around nukes concerning, US says

State Department comments follow DPRK threats to ‘exterminate’ South Korean leaders and use nuclear weapons if attacked

The U.S. is concerned about North Korea’s “strengthened rhetoric” surrounding nuclear weapons, a State Department spokesman said Thursday, shortly after DPRK state media aired an expletive-laden speech by the leader’s sister Kim Yo Jong threatening the South.

Principal deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel also said that the U.S. is “prepared to make both short and longer-term adjustments to our military posture as appropriate in responding to any DPRK provocation,” citing North Korea’s preparations to conduct a nuclear test.
