US ready for possible DPRK nuclear, missile tests during Biden’s East Asia trip

US President set to hold summits in Seoul and Tokyo in the coming days

There’s a “genuine possibility” that North Korea could conduct an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) or nuclear test, or both, during or around the time of U.S. President Joe Biden’s visit to Northeast Asia, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said on Wednesday.

The remarks follow a U.S. State Department assessment earlier this month that North Korea “could be ready” to carry out its seventh nuclear test as early as May.
