Second North Korean defector this year found guilty of spying for Pyongyang

Court says defector worked on behalf of Pyongyang to convince other defectors to return to North Korea

A North Korean defector has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for working as an “overseas operative” on behalf of agents from North Korea’s secret police, the latest spy case between the two Koreas.

The Suwon High Court announced the verdict this week following a final appeal from the defendant whose name and other identifying information is withheld in publicly available court documents.
