North Korea slams ‘double standard’ after UN condemns DPRK human rights

Statement from Pyongyang comes after human rights council passes DPRK human rights resolution for 20th straight year

North Korea slammed a recent United Nations resolution condemning Pyongyang’s human rights abuses, describing the move as the “height of deception.”

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) adopted a resolution for the 20th consecutive year on Friday condemning the human rights situation in North Korea, which has worsened under the country’s “draconian” anti-COVID-19 measures according to the U.N. special rapporteur for North Korean human rights Tomas Ojea Quintana.  

In a statement from Pyongyang’s foreign ministry on Sunday, North Korea dismissed the resolution as a “highly politicized means of hostility” that aims to hurt the image of
