North Korea announces ‘important’ test of reconnaissance satellite system

Second satellite-related launch in a week comes as early voting opens in South Korea’s presidential election

North Korea says it conducted a "reconnaissance satellite" development test on Saturday, its second such test in less than a week that comes as South Koreans prepare to elect a new president on Wednesday.

The National Aerospace Development Administration (NADA) and the Academy of Defence Science guided the “important” test that evaluated “data transmission and control command system” along with “various ground satellite control systems,” according to the state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun.
