UNSC members say ‘silence’ risks normalizing North Korean missile tests

Latest UN Security Council meeting produces no new sanctions as Washington pushes to increase pressure on Pyongyang

The U.S. and eight other countries have condemned North Korea’s latest missile launch, warning that inaction against the DPRK risks “normalizing” missile tests and further destabilizing the region.

The appeal came in a joint statement following a U.N. Security Council (UNSC) meeting on Friday to address Pyongyang’s recent test of its most powerful missile since 2017, with no agreement on expanding sanctions against the DPRK.
