Expert says workers can find informal employment, as the DPRK’s COVID-19 controls leave its citizens stranded overseas

North Korean laborers have continued to work overseas during the pandemic in violation of international sanctions, a draft of the upcoming U.N. Panel of Experts report shows, as the DPRK’s COVID-19 border restrictions leave its citizens stranded abroad.

Chinese and Russian companies reportedly employed a “significant number” of North Koreans throughout 2020 and 2021, while North Korean laborers also worked illegally in Laos, Vietnam and Equatorial Guinea, according to the draft report seen by NK News.
