China, not North Korea, driving major South Korean support for nukes: Poll

A wide majority of South Koreans want their country to go nuclear as perceptions of China worsen

Most South Koreans support their country going nuclear, but not necessarily to deter North Korean threats, a new poll released Tuesday shows.

The Chicago Council on Global Affairs found that 71% of South Koreans support an indigenous nuclear weapons program, and strongly prefer a domestic program compared to stationing U.S. nuclear weapons in their country.
