New Year’s border crosser showed signs he would redefect to North Korea: Police

Man reportedly experienced ‘longing for home’ and ‘maladjustment’ after struggling to adapt to life in South Korea

The North Korean defector who crossed the heavily guarded inter-Korean border back into the DPRK over the weekend had previously shown signs that he might redefect, after struggling to adjust to life in the South, Seoul police said Tuesday.

A local police station in northeastern Seoul charged with the defector’s “personal protection” raised the possibility twice in June last year after the man showed “longing for home” and “social maladjustment,” an official with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency told NK News.
