Washington rejects ‘strategic patience’ label for Biden’s North Korea policy

State Department says US pursues dialogue with DPRK, after White House earlier stressed ‘step-by-step’ approach

The Biden administration is not pursuing a policy of “strategic patience” toward North Korea, the U.S. State Department said Tuesday, emphasizing that its approach calls for resuming dialogue and diplomacy with Pyongyang.

“We’ve made clear in recent months that we harbor no hostile intent toward the DPRK … we continue to be prepared to meet without precondition,” State Department spokesperson David Price said in a press briefing, disputing the characterization of Biden’s policy as a return to the Obama-era approach.
