US, ROK have ‘effectively’ agreed on draft text of end-of-war declaration: Seoul

South Korean foreign minister says US reaffirmed support but mum on how they will address North Korea’s preconditions

The U.S. and South Korea have “effectively” agreed on a draft text for a formal declaration to end the Korean War, Seoul’s foreign minister said Wednesday, while conceding that it will be difficult to achieve a breakthrough in inter-Korean relations at the Beijing Olympics.

Chung Eui-yong said he confirmed Washington’s position on an end-of-war declaration when he met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the margins of the G7 session in the U.K. earlier this month.
