US lawmakers urge White House to reject end-of-war declaration with North Korea

Members of Congress say ending Korean War would undermine regional security, compromise the mandate of US Forces Korea

About three dozen lawmakers have urged the Biden administration not to support a declaration to end the Korean War until North Korea eliminates its nuclear weapons and improves human rights conditions in the country.

The letter, signed by 35 Republican representatives and sent to U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sulivan on Tuesday, warns that a “premature” move will put the lives of tens of thousands of Americans and their allies in danger. It comes after 23 Democratic members of Congress signed a letter to the White House arguing for the opposite position in November.
