Despite Moon Jae-in’s positive spin, there are no real signs that the Korean War will be ending any time soon.

Speaking in Canberra on Monday, the South Korean President said that the two Koreas, the U.S. and China have all agreed to declare an end to the Korean War “in principle.”

A number of media outlets have seized on these comments, generating misleading — and sometimes inaccurate — headlines and Twitter posts about the end of the 71-year conflict.

But much like these reports, the South Korean president’s optimistic interpretation of the situation lacks sorely needed context.
