South Korean President Moon Jae-in urged North Korea to participate in international efforts to address climate change, framing forestry initiatives in particular as a pathway to greater inter-Korean ties.

Moon delivered the remarks at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit on Thursday, a little more than a week after making a similar pitch at the U.N. climate conference in Glasgow.

“Having North Korea join forestry cooperation in Northeast Asia will not only help reduce greenhouse gas emissions on the Korean Peninsula but also contribute to peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia,” Moon said
