The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reportedly announced Tuesday that it will hold an emergency meeting following North Korea’s latest submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) test.

The UNSC and U.N. more broadly have denounced North Korean missile tests in the past, calling for Pyongyang to follow resolutions that prohibit the country from nuclear and ballistic missile activities, including tests.

Washington’s special envoy to North Korea, Sung Kim, condemned North Korea’s SLBM launch at a trilateral meeting with his South Korean and Japanese counterparts on Tuesday, calling on the DPRK to “refrain from further provocations” and engage in “sustained and substantive dialogue.”
