US approves sale of $258 million worth of guided munitions to South Korea

Seoul’s weapons purchase will support joint plans for possibility of conflict with North Korea, according to US agency

The U.S. State Department has approved the sale of guided munitions worth up to $258 million dollars to South Korea, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said on Wednesday (U.S. time).

In a press release, the agency indicated that the sale will support joint U.S.-ROK preparations for the possibility of armed conflict with North Korea, as well as the transfer of wartime operational control (OPCON) of South Korean troops from Washington to Seoul.
