Kim Jong Un orders disaster relief days after major flooding hits North Korea

Belated state media report does not indicate leader visited affected areas, as local officials hold emergency meeting

A provincial military commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) held an emergency meeting earlier this week to discuss countermeasures for destructive flooding in the region, according to state media on Sunday, as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un delivered instructions for disaster relief apparently without visiting the area.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the South Hamgyong Provincial Military Commission convened the meeting on Thursday, the same day that state television aired footage of flooding in the province that it said had destroyed over 1,000 homes.
