Moon calls Kim Jong Un ‘honest,’ pushes talks with North Korea as term nears end

South Korean president reflects on Kim, denuclearization in new interview as Pyongyang continues to stonewall

South Korean President Moon Jae-in characterized his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong Un as “very honest” and suggested vaccine diplomacy could jump-start talks with Pyongyang in an interview published on Wednesday.

North Korea could still be persuaded to come out for negotiations on its nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missiles through a “cycle of denuclearization and sanctions relief,” Moon told TIME magazine in the interview, held on June 9.
