China’s UN ambassador calls for ‘timely adjustment’ of sanctions on North Korea

Zhang Jun said he hopes the US’ new policy review will emphasize diplomacy, not more pressure

China’s ambassador to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, said that his country hopes the United States’ recently-completed North Korea policy review focuses on dialogue instead of “extreme pressure,” and that both parties would continue to refrain from mutual provocation.

The remarks came during a U.N. Security Council press briefing on May 3, with Zhang adding that China needed to further study the details of the review and that “we do believe that diplomatic efforts represent the right direction.”
