China moved its former ambassador to the United Kingdom to a new role meant to oversee Korean Peninsula affairs, the country’s foreign ministry announced on Monday. 

Liu Xiaoming, who most recently served as China’s ambassador to the U.K. from 2010 to 2021, now works under the title of Beijing’s special representative for Korean Peninsula affairs. 

“Ambassador Liu is a senior diplomat with rich work experience and familiar with Korean Peninsula affairs,” Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Zhao Lijian said in a release. “He will maintain communication and cooperation with all relevant sides and play a constructive role in
