Why North Korea has ‘no reason’ to reply to Biden’s backchannel messages

North Korea may be holding out for the US’ policy review or for better leverage during negotiations, experts say

U.S. President Joe Biden is only three months into his presidency, but his administration has wasted no time in trying to contact North Korea: Over the weekend, NK News confirmed that the Biden administration repeatedly tried to get in touch with North Korea through backchannel methods, but has been ignored since at least mid-February.

Now, experts say that Pyongyang’s unresponsiveness is no surprise, and that Kim Jong Un will likely continue to ignore Biden administration outreach until Washington reveals its much-anticipated North Korea policy review.
